Shirley Griffin Smith, age 89 of McCall Drive, Forest City died Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Hospice Of the Carolina Foothills in Forest City. Shirley was born on March 25, 1928 in Rutherford County and was daughter of the late Wade Hampton Griffin and Nancy Ophelia Greene Griffin. She was a graduate of Cool Springs High School and attended Gardner-Webb College. She was a homemaker and a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Forest City.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, T. Pryor Smith, Sr., who served as Mayor of the Town of Forest City as well as her son, Todd Smith who died in 2015.
Survivors include a son, Thomas P. Smith,Jr. and wife Crystal of Forest City, a brother, Michael Griffin and wife Judy of Rock Hill, SC, a sister, Betty Jean Tarlton of Alexander County, NC. There are also three grandchildren, Collin Smith, Kaley Smith Spurlin and husband Ryan, and Ailey Smith.
The funeral service will be held at two o'clock Saturday, January 13, 2018 in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Garin Hill officiating. Interment will follow in the Cool Springs Cemetery. Visitation will from 4 until 6 PM Friday evening at The Padgett and King Mortuary.
