Marshal Hugh Smith, age 85 of Forest City died Friday, December 1, 2017 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Marshal was born June 27, 1932 in Forest City and was a son of the late Ralph and Ola Baynard Smith. He was a member of Crestview Baptist Church and the President and Owner of the Sports Center in Forest City. Marshal loved boating, skiing and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his son, Rodney Smith in 2007, a sister, Shirley Smith Blanton, and brothers, C. Everett Smith, Thomas Smith, and Jimmy Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Millwood Smith, a daughter, Teresa Smith Newton and husband Dennis of Apopka, FL, a brother, Paul Smith and wife Lillian of York, SC, three grandchildren, Robbie Smith and wife Chery, Jason Newton and wife Stacy, and Jeremy Newton as well as two great-grandchildren, Caleb and Hannah Grace Smith.
Funeral services will be held at two o'clock Wednesday, December 6, 2017 in The Padgett and King Chapel with Reverend Kevin Rohm officiating. Interment will follow in the Cool Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be at the mortuary from 1 until 2 pm prior to the service.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of the family. I have known Marshal all of my life and spent many hours with Marshal and Bill at the sports center. Being Marshals First Cousin, I have been honored to have known and loved him all of my life and we know right now that Marshal is in Glory! His faith was extremely obvious in the way he lived his life and his love and devotion to God, you and his family...He had a heart of pure gold and will truly be missed!! Vicki and I are so saddened to hear of Marshall's passing, he was a great friend. We will miss setting around the Sports Center solving all the world's problems he always had the best outlook on life and loved his family.
