Dorris McKinney Edwards, age 100 of Ellenboro died Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Oakland Living Center where she has been a resident for the past eight years. Dorris was born June 5, 1917 in Rutherford County and was the last surviving of the ten children born to the late John Alexander and Johnnie Price McKinney. Dorris lived most of her adult life in Charlotte where she worked as a secretary for Mr. John Belk in the office of Belk's Department Store for forty years. Following retirement she and her husband returned to Rutherford County where she attended Philadelphia Primitive Baptist Church in Ellenboro.
In addition to her siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-one years, Walter Heath Edwards who died in 2008.
Survivors include a niece and several nephews as well as a number of great-nieces and great-nephews who were very special to her.
Funeral services will be held at three o'clock Sunday, July 9, 2017 in The Padgett and King Chapel with Reverend Michael Sepaugh and Elder Ralph Dale officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery beside her late husband. No formal visitation will be held.
