Lynn Patterson Obituary

In loving memory of Beverley Lynn Dixon Patterson, a beloved Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and cherished member of the Rutherfordton, North Carolina community. She gracefully departed from this world on March 14, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and lasting memories.

Lynn Patterson was born in Shelby, North Carolina to Faye and Enos Dixon. There she began her lifelong dedication to the pursuit of musical excellence at age seven with her very first piano lesson. She continued her musical accomplishments into adulthood studying at Gardner Webb University and playing piano for her home church, Eastside Baptist Church. She had a passion for music and used her talents and passion to minister, express love and inspire others. In addition to being an accomplished concert pianist, she held a master’s degree in education from Appalachian State University and was a dedicated National Board-Certified elementary school teacher for over three decades. Lynn touched the lives of many students both academically and musically.

Lynn and her husband, Gerald Anthony “Tony” Patterson, moved to Rutherfordton, North Carolina in 1975 with their young daughter where the couple would welcome two more beautiful baby boys to their family. It was at Rutherfordton Presbyterian Church where Lynn dedicated herself to further musical pursuits as church pianist and organist for forty-six years. For her unwavering faith and dedication to her ministry through music she was awarded the Presbyterian Women’s Life Membership Award in 2017. Lynn’s ministry through music will be cherished by the masses she touched faithfully every Sunday.

While music was the talent that most people recognized, Lynn was gifted in many other areas. She was a skilled seamstress, meticulous housekeeper who maintained her home with class and elegance. Perhaps the most obscure talent Lynn held was that of a builder. Lynn assisted Tony in the planning and building of their shared dream home, hoisting beams, and painting walls, contributing her creativity and unique perspective.

Lynn is preceded in death by her mother, Faye McDaniel Dixon; her father, Enos Lary Dixon; and son, Dixon Zachery Patterson. Lynn is survived by her husband; her daughter; Heather Patterson Fry (Christopher Gale Fry); and son, Adam McDaniel Patterson (Jennifer Ann Patterson); her grandchildren: Dixon “Dixie” Cali Patterson; Hadley “Ollie” Faye Patterson; Jacob Ellis Fry; Hannah Fry Burgin (Benjamin Broadhurst Burgin); and great-grandchildren: Benjamin Ferran Burgin; Breton Hudson Burgin; and Rio Ellis Burgin.

Lynn’s creative spirit and unwavering faith in God lives on in the lives of those she touched. The memorial service will be held on April 13, 2024, at 3:00p.m. at Rutherfordton Presbyterian Church in Rutherfordton, North Carolina. The Reverend Dr. Donald G. Schofield, Jr., officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory are requested to be made to Rutherfordton Presbyterian Church Post Office Box 1133 Rutherfordton, North Carolina 28139.
